Observing and Asking Questions
We will discuss what we can learn from "Sangkuriang".
Here are what we will do. First, we will read the questions carefully. Second, we will find the answer from the story in our notebook.

Then, we will answer the questions orally. We can ask our teacher questions, too.
We will use a dictionary. We will make sure we know the meaning for every word in the folktale.
We will spell the words and use the punctuation marks correctly. We will say the words loudly, clearly, and correctly.
1. Who was Dayang Sumbi? Describe her.
Answer : Dayang Sumbi was a princess in West Java, who married with Tumang, and had a son named Sangkuriang.

2. Who was Tumang? Why did Dayang Sumbi marry him?
Answer : Tumang was actually a man who had been cursed by a witch to became a dog. Dayang Sumbi marry him, because she had promised a male who help her to got her tool.
3. Was Tumang a human being or a dog?
Answer : Tumang was actually a man who had been cursed by a witch to became a dog.
4. What did Sangkuriang know about Tumang?
Answer : Sangkuriang know that Tumang was a loyal dog.

5. One day Sangkuriang killed Tumang. Did he kill him because he was a bad son to his father? Why did he kill him?
Answer : No, he did not. He kill Tumang, because he did not want to disappoint his mother.
6. If you were Dayang Sumbi, would you tell Sangkuriang the truth or would you keep the secret from him? Explain your answer.
Answer : Yes, I would tell the truth to Sangkuriang that’s Tumang is Sangkuriang’s father, because lying is bad attitude and can give a bad impact.
7. What happened to Sangkuriang after he killed Tumang?
Answer : Dayang Sumbi got very angry and hit Sangkuriang’s forehead with a piece of wood and told him to leave.
8. When Sangkuriang saw Dayang Sumbi, he proposed to marry her. Was he a bad son to his mother? Why did he want to marry her?
Answer : No, Sangkuriang is not a bad son. Sangkuriang proposed to marry her, because Dayang Sumbi was a beautiful woman and he fell in love with her at the first sight. Sangkuriang did not know about Dayang Sumbi was his mother.
9. Why did Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to build a lake and a boat in one night?
Answer : She gave him an impossible thing to do to cheat Sangkuriang. So, she could not marry with him.
10. Why could not Sangkuriang finish the boat?
Answer : Sangkuriang could not finish the boat, because the genies thinking that the night would be over soon. So, they ran fast and left Sangkuriang before the boat was finished.

11. How did the boat get upside down?
Answer : Sangkuriang got very angry and he kicked the boat upside down. It became a mountain and it is now known as Mountain Tangkuban Perahu.
12. What have we learn from the story?
a. You must not kill your parents.
b. You must not marry your mother.
c. You should not hide the truth.
d. You should accept the truth that you will get old.
Answer : C (You should not hide the truth)
